The Ghetto Games Festival in Ventspils will bring together action sports athletes from all over the globe for the fifth year in a row
This summer on July 29-31 the international street culture and sports festival „Ghetto Games Festival” will take place in Ventspils, Latvia. This is the fifth consecutive year of the festival and it will gather up to a professional action sports athletes from all over the globe.
The Ghetto Games festival (or simply GGFEST) is a youth culture and action sports festival that annually brings together the world's most notable action sports athletes to the hospitable city of Ventspils. This year we will bring together 1500 participants in different 17 sports from 25 countries. An especially impressive show can be expected at the BMX Freestyle and Inline skating competitions. Nearly a hundred of modern day top extreme athletes will compete. Europe’s best will be joined by athletes by guests from USA, Australia and Canada.
We gather the best up-and-comers and living legends of each noted action sport, as well as several thousands of spectators that are there for the amazing experience. GGFEST is a celebration of action sports during which the world's best athletes meet the local talent and fans, whose dream is to become as good at what they do as their idols.
In addition to all the action sports activities, which include skateboarding, BMX freestyle, inline skating, streetbike freestyle, there will be tournaments in a bit less extreme but equally exciting sports - international tournaments of street basketball, street floorball, street football along with competitions of street dance, armwrestling, powerlifting and the „Baltic Open” Street Workout Championship.
There is a good reason why the city of Ventspils has been chosen as the venue of the festival. The Ventspils City Council supports the development of action sports and this is proven by the ever so evolving sports infrastructure of the city and the co-finansing of this event.
On Saturday, July 30 the above mentioned sports infrastructure will provide the opportunity to follow all the activities of the festival in the Olympic Centre "Ventspils" teritory and the skatepark built next to it. The action will switch Ventspils „Adventure Park” on Sunday, July 31 for the wakeboarding and BMX Dirt competitions. A special event this year will be the Open Streetbike Freestyle Championship of Northern Europe “Kurland Stunt”, with motorcycle rumble filling the streets of Ventspils. Team sports tournaments will take place nearby.
To top it all off – there is no entrance fee for the festival visitors!
